The Oscars: 80 years!

Seriously, you need your own six part Berlitz language course to understand any of the acceptance speeches this year.

But what I really want to know: how can we see any of these cool short films? These "foreign films"? So many interesting looking ideas out there and we get stuck with the same story line over and over again.

Update: I gave up on this year's award show. It was the most boring, tedious, poorly written, bloated yet. Worse, none of the winners spoke English (except Daniel Day Lewis who is a God and can speak any language he wants because I will still worship him).

I am so glad we're past the 80th year. The retrospectives were torturous. Remind me not to watch when the 100th anniversary airs and takes 100 hours to get through.

Look up Shorts International in the iTunes store and you will find several if not all of the short films for sale @ $1.99 each! I'm dowloading "Peter and the Wolf" at this very moment!

I went to bed after happening to see the award given for Best Documentary (I was doing other things after getting similarly bored with it myself.) It occurred to me that I hadn't seen many of the movies in contention this year (still haven't even made it to see Juno or Into The Wild yet...!) and hence, why should I really care? Not disputing the quality of the films themselves - I want to see most of this year's heavy hitters at some point - but this awards ceremony seemed more like just an obligatory run-through than anything else - there was no compelling need to "celebrate the movies" at this time that I could detect.

I loved the show -- but I'm a retrospective junkie. E and I adored this year's show, but it could also be that since we haven't seen the show except in snippets during family trips to D'land with way too many little kids jumping on the beds that ANY Oscar show would have been great in our eyes....

Oh dear! This is one of the few times I've enjoyed the show! LOL! I thought Jon Stewart was the best host I've seen. Oh well! So much for my taste in award shows. ;-)

Sorry to throw such cold water on the show! It could just be me. I saw that others enjoyed it. I just didn't have the patience for all of those long retrospectives.

I am a fan of Ellen doing the show. I think she was terrific. John Stewart - Love him! Just not as much at awards shows.

Glad you enjoyed it!
