Yahweh, by U2

Some visuals to go with the first verse and chorus....

Take these shoes
Click clacking down some dead end street

Take these shoes
And make them fit

Take this shirt
Polyester white trash made in nowhere

Take this shirt
And make it clean, clean

Take this soul
Stranded in some skin and bones
Take this soul
And make it sing

Yahweh, Yahweh
Always pain before a child is born

Yahweh, Yahweh
Still I'm waiting for the dawn

I love this song....

This is a cool idea, Julie... photo-illustrating a song. I will give that track another listen. Say, is that a "Sims 2" snapshot at the bottom (the "moon in the window" kitchen sink scene)? It looks like a virtual environment of some sort...

It's not, but it does look like it, doesn't it?

I was just playing around yesterday looking at art work and thinking about that song and the idea to illustrate the lyrics became almost a meditation for me. It was interesting picking the last picture. I had imagined some glorious dawn photo from photo.net or something. But when I saw that one, I thought - That's what "still waiting for the dawn" actually looks like. It's the hint of color after colorlessness, it's the waiting at the kitchen sink in the midst of daily life, looking out a small window for the coming light....

I really liked it.

I also didn't even totally notice that the first photos were all b&w until I posted. The color at the end feels so vibrant as a result.

Last interesting note for you, the media man. The picture of the woman singing is Sarah Vaughan. Her daughter wnet to high school with me and we were always in the same homeroom. I deliberately looked for a picture of her. When we think about "souls singing" I often think of her. She was amazing.
