Allow

Last night at yoga, my instructor read the following reading. It spoke to me - that safety lies in letting it all in. I share it with you today.

Allow

There is no controlling life.
Try corralling a lightning bolt,
containing a tornado. Dam a
stream, and it will create a new
channel. Resist, and the tide
will sweep you off your feet.
Allow, and grace will carry
you to higher ground. The only
safety lies in letting it all in—
the wild with the weak; fear,
fantasies, failures and success.
When loss rips the doors of
the heart, or sadness veils your
vision with despair, practice
becomes simply bearing the truth.
In the choice to let go of your
known way of being, the whole
world is revealed to your new eyes.

This is wonderful. I may have to use it instead of a quote one of these days.

Hi Julie,

This quote is along the lines of what I have thinking about and processing for the last couple of years...Here is another quote which I think compliments your excellent quote. Thanks for sharing...

To be alive emotionally we have to be at home with the dark emotions and find a way to let them be. We must find an alternative to the contain and manage approach to our pain, something more like connect and flow…We must learn to attend, befriend, and mindfully surrender to the dark emotions…Emotions don’t need to be ruled: they need to be tolerated and expressed

I like what Bilbo said.

Too often we religious folks like to spend tme rationalizing our pain instead of expressing it.
