Had to giggle at this. I'm not a writer, and I don't put myself and you in the same category at all when it comes to expressing ourselves, but I do understand the "self-indulgent, obvious, and tedious" bit. It seems everything I write about my life right now comes out sounding this way. I keep deleting my blog posts before they see the light of day. I honestly am struggling with some things that are important to me, and processing out-loud might help, but I don't want my life to sound like an overworked melodrama.
I, for one, am looking forward to reading whatever you write about your mid-life revelations. I'm betting it won't sound so self-indulgent to me.
