Gushes of Enthusiasm

Dave Cullen rightly describes what happens to me when I am moved - "May also contain gushes of enthusiasm." His blog got taken over by the Brokeback Mountain phenomenon and he created a set of forums for "Broke-aholic" discussion. If you are needing a place to deconstruct that movie or book, I highly recommend it.

I bought the soundtrack the other day and am loving it. First country style CD I've ever owned. Yet it so perfectly fit the story, that I am actually swept up by the music.

Today on Oprah, the primary four stars from the movie will be interviewed. So, I'll debrief then. Just wanted to say again, this is an exquisite movie. Don't be afraid to see it.

Hi Julie,

Yeah, your passionate advocacy of this film (and similar comments on the message board you linked us to) does stir up some curiosity on my part. There are other movies that I'd rather see, like Syriana and Good Night and Good Luck, but other than Narnia and King Kong, going out to the movies hasn't really been much of an option or priority for me. It's like every single day I have stuff going on that makes it hard to carve out a few hours to catch a flick. But I will be looking for my chance to see BBM soon, if for no other reason than to get clued in as to why it has fired you up so much. Never was "afraid" of seeing it, just didn't expect that it was destined to become such a cultural landmark event as some seem to think it's on the verge of being (if it ain't already...)

I saw Syriana. It was good. It was hard. I am not sure yet what I think about it as far as awards etc. Worth seeing. But not the kind of movie that leaves me moved, if you know what I mean. Mostly left me mad. :) (Leftie that I've become, thanks to people like you.)

BBM is a love story that breaks your heart but catches you unawares. That's why it's become a phenomenon.

Good acting, good film. It is worth seeing when you do get the chance. I'd be very interested in your take, actually.

Hi Julie,

Your enthusiasm has caught my attention as well Julie and I intend to go see it next week. Looks like I will be seeing it solo though since no one in my neck of the woods has shown any interest...and...sad to report that the film has become the butt of jokes with many of my colleagues at work which is why I am also determined to see the film.

Bill, knowing you the bit that I do online and your sentimental heart, I predict that you will love this story. Please do post your thoughts here after you view it this weekend. I ahve precious few people I can talk to about the movie. And I suspect you will be in the same category.

One of the interesting things about it for me was the setting - and since you live in Bakersfield, I think you'll know what I mean - the moutains culture and such.
