I think Neuheisel is a good fit for UCLA and if they can keep their defensive coordinator than UCLA should improve and could move up into the upper tier of the Pac-10...but...as long Pete Carroll stays at USC I don't see them being a serious threat to the dominance of the Men of Troy...
But remember: Neiheisel *played* against USC, he hates USC and he is a terrific recruiter (talk about salesman). So I think that for the first time, UCLA actually has a shot at Carroll who has been without a rival in the recruiting dep't. for ten years.
Carroll is a fabulous coach, but when you think about it - how hard has it been in LA with UCLA across town? It's about to become a little more challenging. :) Maybe not this year or the one after it, but in the next four years, I think Neuheisel has the goods to make something happen. Something good. Something that gets Pete's attention.
And think about all the good rivalry copy they'll generate! LOL
Btw, I forget. Did you go to USC? From whence does this unflagging devotion arise?
I should add - as far as campuses go, UCLA is without peer. So if the program improves, the Rose Bowl, the campus, the facilities, Westwood... These are good draws. :) USC? Not so much.
"Did I go to USC and from whence does this unflagging devotion arise?"....No I didn't go to USC but I grew up watching USC as early as the 1960's during the John McKay and O.J. Simpson era...and...I watched all the Rose Bowls in those early years between USC and generally either Michigan and Ohio State...When it comes to sports teams I am generally very loyal to my teams and tenacious, especially when they are doing well. I am still a Ram fan for example, even though they haven't played in L.A. since, the early 90's...and...let's just say I love to badger the rivals of my favorite teams especially when my team is favored or on top. If UCLA does become as competitive as you predict and they do start beating USC you probably won't hear a thing from me but until that day comes I'll continue to toot the horn for the men of Troy...
